Day One of our Spring Break Western Extravaganza!

After about 3 days of sporadic packing, and about 2 hours of playing “what am I forgetting?”, we hit the road at about 5:30 this afternoon. The day’s plan included a drive of about 4 hours to Earth City MO for a very brief rest at an Extended Stay. Irony.
Hilarity commenced when Zach and Eli rigged up a way to attach an iPad to the part of the van ceiling where a DVD player would go, as an upgrade, with some electrical tape and some velcro we picked up later from Walgreens. It ended up working very well and they knocked out a couple of movies: Kung Fu Panda and Dragon Heart.

Dinner at Chick-fil-A in Terre Haute about 2 hours into the trip followed by our Walgreens visit to pick up Aleive for a splitting stress headache I developed while packing, some hair bands, some crayons for Vivian to color into her Chick-fil-A coloring book, and some pens for the kids to write into their journals (NOT diaries, per Eli).

We had a fairly non-eventful drive with the exception of the toddler needing to pee. Like right now. On the side of the highway. We hit a bit of weather coming into St. Louis. A pretty impressive lightning show. But 4 out of 5 kids were already out, so it didn’t bother them.

We pulled into the Extended Stay at about 9:45 Central. Interesting place. Let’s just say I’m thankful that our stay won’t be an extended one.
