Last day in DC. ☹️ This morning we packed up, cleaned the house a bit, got ready and headed out. Local McDonald’s for breakfast since we were pretty much out of cereal. And we were on the road at about 9:45 or so. It was a quick 20 minutes to our parking spot in DC (the light weekend traffic was nice).
Weather was nice today. Still some wind making it colder, but the sun was out and it was tolerable. The feet were still kinda hurting from the walking yesterday, but I was okay and we wouldn’t be walking much today.
Really the only place that we planned to see this morning before hitting the road was the Library of Congress. We parked, took a quick 20 minute walk or so south and we were there.
This building was amazing!! For me, I was certainly thinking that we’d saved the best for last. We’d heard earlier in the week from some that it was a beautiful building, but I had no idea how amazing it would be.
Even on Saturday morning there was quite a line of people waiting to get in. So worth the wait!

There were some temporary exhibits there. One on the history of baseball and another on the early exploration of America.

Also there was an exhibit of Thomas Jefferson’s personal library.

One very interesting display was the best-preserved copy (of 7 known copies) of Abel Buell’s map of America in 1784.

We also saw the main sitting area, probably the most famous section of the library. It was arguably the most beautiful room in the building and certainly the most beautiful library I’ve ever seen.

There was the Office of The Librarian on the first floor. Can’t imagine getting anything done in such an amazing office.

What a way to end our trip! After our last DC stop it was back to the van and off toward the direction of home. We’d stop tonight in Morgantown WV to spend the night. Just a quick 3 hour drive. We had lunch/dinner at Cracker Barrel and stayed at a Microtel Inn & Suites.
