Last week was “back to school” time! It never ceases to amaze me how quickly time goes. With this time comes the flood of memories of past days with kids getting their little backpacks, gathering up their school supplies, getting on the bus or driving away for the first time of the school year, and advancing another school year.
Zach will be starting his 3rd year at Purdue in a few weeks at the Krannert School of Management continuing on with his bachelors degree in Marketing. This will be his first full year in this degree path and he’s very excited. He’s living off campus in an apartment at the West Lafayette campus with two very good friends.
Eli has started his apprenticeship program at Endress+Hauser and starts his classes at Ivy Tech next week. He’s still working very hard with some long hours during the week, but he’s very dedicated to the program and eager to start classes.
Meagan is no doubt seeing the biggest changes of our kids. Her school schedule was a bit challenging to set. Sonya met with her counselor the week before school started and came up with a plan for her classes. In order to graduate, she will have to have some core classes. It wasn’t really clear how to translate what classes she took in Bulgaria to the classes here in an Indiana high school, so she is taking three freshman level classes even though she’s technically a sophomore. Also, her English is still progressing, but not yet at the level where she can fully take advantage of the classes. Fortunately, Seth will be in those classes with her and has been helping her with her homework. She will have two of her sophomore level classes with Savannah who will be able to help her with her homework. She will also take an ESL (English as a Second Language) class. Also, the counselor arranged for her to have a study hall period where she will be able to spend time with an English teacher who happens to be from Bulgaria. We’ve gotten to know her better of the summer and is more than eager to help her along. We’re looking forward to watching her progress. She’s also looking at running cross country in the fall and track in the spring. We’re still working out the details on how she can do that, but she’s very excited about this possibility.
Savannah is a sophomore this year. She’s doing very well in school and is loving being on the tennis team in the spring.
Seth is off and running in his freshman year and is playing with the boys’ tennis team as well. So far he’s adjusting very well to his new school.
Vivian is in 3rd grade at Southwest Elementary. She is progressing really well and we saw a lot of improvement in her last year.
It was a very busy, but fun summer. But it’s come to an end. This year’s school schedule will no doubt have us busy, but we will always enjoy watching the kids advance in life.

Of course I love ALL of these pictures, but in my mind the one of Vivian jumping for joy is the winner! That’s Vivian in a nutshell. Also, it’s absolutely great how Megan’s schedule has been coordinated with the teachers and her brother and sister.
