Painting, Lighting, and Back Wall Work

We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with this project. We’re still not out of the woods yet, but we’re starting to put a bow on it. (Any other project platitudes I can include?)

This past week was a fairly busy one, but not that much to write about. I’ll start off by giving Sonya, the kids, and friends kudos for a good job painting the spaces which are complete. The girls’ room, Seth’s room, the upstairs common area, the stairwell, Vivian’s room, and our room are all completely painted, lights installed, and ready for flooring and trim.

More lighting was put up as well. For the dining room light, we had to find a ceiling medallion to cover up a rather large hole in the ceiling. For the entry way from the side door and the laundry room, In installed, for the first time, lights with no replicable light bulbs. Just adapting to new technology, but wondering what happens when the LED’s go out, and when that might be. Hopefully it’ll last long past when we’re gone and it’ll be someone else’s problem. Lights installed in the closets, easy peasy. And lights installed at the front door, which look great!

Work started on the Family Room back wall this week. You may or may not remember that we’d discovered the back wall being largely cinderblock (theoretically a previous garage), which complicated things. And, par for the course, it’s going really fast! The crew on the job is super friendly! Great guys. I was thinking that they were going to only be removing part of the cinderblock from that back wall. However, they ended up removing the entire cinderblock portion of the wall. This makes sense to me. Now the wall can be at a more uniform thickness.

Sonya and I set out to finish installing the shiplap planks on the kitchen ceiling by Friday night. We went until about 10pm and got about 95% done before we ran out of planks. One more package was needed! Three more rows and we’ll be done. We’ll put up crown molding around the edges once the drywall has been finished and it will be ready to paint. I’ve really enjoyed this part of the project, working side by side with my renovation buddy. 🙂

Apart from renovation progress, we also had some interesting weather this past week. The Monday evening sunset was incredible! We saw lots of pictures posted of it. Also, on Friday night, we got about 4 inches of snow, which was the initiation of the transition between the Midwest’s sub-seasons of Fool’s Spring (with temperatures in the 60’s) and 2nd Winter.

That’s about it for this week! Thanks for tuning in!

The McCauley's want to hear from you!
