Exciting week this past week! The biggest event that happened was the installation of the engineered hardwood flooring. Installers came in Wednesday, mostly for preparation for the installation. Then Thursday, they installed the flooring. They did a fantastic job and it looks amazing! It’s really starting to look like a home. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

With the flooring complete, Sonya had some painting to finish up before moving more of our stuff into the house. She did the finishing touches on the living and dining rooms: trim and baseboards. Next is the kitchen. Two walls will be painted and two will be wallpapered. She’ll start in on the cabinets next. We’ve decided to delay a kitchen remodel, pushing it down the road for now. The kitchen is functional and will do for a year or two (more or less).

This past Monday, we officially moved into the house. The bedrooms are, for the most part finished. The living spaces are still a work in progress, but close enough. Still a lot of work to do, but it’s livable. We issued the last draw on the mortgage to our general contractor, so the rest of the work is all DIY (hopefully).
I’d inherited a chest of drawers from my brother Steve several years ago that I’ve grown quite attached to. Of course we wanted to make sure that it fit into the little section of our closet before moving it in. So Sonya took some measurements of the inside of this section of the closet and, yep it fits. Didn’t take into account the door frame opening though. So we moved it into the room and had to make some “adjustments” with a saw-all to allow it to fit. Little more work than I’d planned on doing that day. Oh well, it’s just a closet. 🙂

Really the last part of the interior of the house to do is the back family room. Right now it’s still very much a job site. I’m currently working on wiring the attached garage so that I can move my woodshop out there for the time being. Eventually the woodworking tools will move to the 2-car section of the detached garage and the auto shop will be in the 1-car section.
