Eli’s Program Acceptance

Congratulations to Eli who just found out this week that he was accepted in Endress+Hauser’s 3-year apprenticeship program, earning him 5 years of guaranteed employment!

Endress+Hauser Greenwood Indiana Campus

The Apprenticeship Program is a three-year education and experience combination followed by a two-year employment commitment at Endress+Hauser for current high school students graduating this spring or summer.

During the Apprenticeship Program, the employee will split time between taking classes at Ivy Tech toward an Associate’s Degree and working at Endress+Hauser.  This program is in partnership with Industry Consortium for Advanced Technical Training, benchmarked with the German dual education system.

We could not be more proud of him today! He was accepted into their summer work program before graduating high school and his commitment to the program was almost immediately tested.

He would have to be available during the entire 6-week summer work program along with 12 other candidates for the Apprenticeship Program. This means that he would have to miss camp. MSC is a wonderful camp that he has gone to since he was 8 years old and this would be his last year. But looking toward his long term future, he gave up going to camp to dedicate himself to the summer job.

He also forfeited a 1-week vacation to Virginia Beach to see his aunt, uncle, and cousins while the rest of his siblings got the chance to go. It could not have been easy for him to give this week up either, but he stayed home and worked withour complaint.

Throughout the 6 weeks of summer work, it sounds like they worked him pretty hard. He was often times having to start work at 6:45am, coming home at 4:30 or 5:00 Monday through Friday. He was also asked to work a few Saturdays.

Without complaint, he complied. I tried to encourage him through this time, telling him that his efforts would not go unnoticed. And they didn’t. He got a lot of positive feedback from his fellow employees, often from people he didn’t even work with to the decision makers involved in his evaluation.

The transition from child to adult isn’t always easy for everyone. But Eli’s work ethic and complaining just never really being in his nature has helped him during this time and we are excited to see where this opportunity takes him.
